Community Building Fund Supports Chicopee with Capital Stream Grant

Media Release: September 2, 2022

Kitchener – In 2022, The Chicopee Ski Club received a $500,000 Capital stream grant from the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund, which is administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The funds are helping improve its snowmaking capability ensuring skiing at Chicopee is available for many years to come.

“Chicopee Ski Club is a local mainstay for fun outdoor activities, having served both our home community and visitors from afar for almost 90 years!” said Jess Dixon, MPP for Kitchener South—Hespeler. “I’m so pleased to see the Club as a recipient of this important funding. The grant supports Chicopee in adapting to the challenges of the pandemic, as well as creating jobs in our community. It also supports the Club in continuing to deliver their wonderful recreational and team building programs and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors in their many visitors.”

The snowmaking improvements include new piping, hydrants, snow guns and fans, as well as automated controls. These changes provide improved snow making capability and efficiency for the North ski run and completed in time for the 2022-2023 ski season.

"The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant is helping Chicopee sustain its snowmaking ability and efficiencies in the volatile weather of Southwestern Ontario well into the future,” said Bill Creighton, CEO of the Chicopee Ski Club. “This grant is a building block for the beginning of our plan to improve and expand Chicopee to be the best destination for Family Skiing and Snowboarding in Southwestern Ontario.”
