Progression Is Inevitable!

For those that are new to the sports of skiing or boarding the answer is obvious. For those that have been skiing or boarding for a while the answer might not be.  Bad habits develop over time and periodically having a Technique Tune Up under the watchful eye of a professional will keep your skills in top shape.  A small change in your stance or improving balance over the outside ski can make a large improvement in your technique.  There are constant changes required due to new developments in equipment, changes to terrain or with different snow conditions.

When we are first learning a new skill there is more instruction & guidance required be the instructor even to the point where they might be holding your hand to help with your balance.  When we reach the intermediate or advanced level stage the instructors’ role modifies to that of a coach or observer.  If your image of a lesson is one of the class standing at the side of the slopes & listening to the instructor tell you everything they know about skiing or boarding I want to let you know that things have changed.  The instructors are trained to watch the group and point out individual feedback to each person in the group and give them tactics or feelings that will develop their skills through continued practice.  The longer we do things a certain way the longer it takes to make change.  It is not likely that a couple of hours in a lesson will make a dramatic change in your skills but it will give you things to work on when you are out on your own.  As I mentioned Progression is Inevitable but is not instantaneous.

Lessons are not just for beginners or kids.  In addition to our children’s 8 week programs we also have adult 8 week or 3week programs and our new adult 4 Hour Clinics on Saturday mornings. The Clinics are on some of the hottest topics in the industry so check out the dates and topics on the website or give us a call for more information. Don’t have time for a series of lessons; book a private lesson at your convenience for a review of your skills with one of our pros.  You will see the instructors getting their technique tunes when you see the group gather for their sessions each week.  This is a way that we share information to the other instructors and to work on our own skills. The worst thing that can happen is you might learn something that makes your experience on the slopes that much better; remember Progression is Inevitable.

I hope to see everyone on the slopes this winter.
