General Information

Chicopee Ski Patrol is part of the Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP) and receives its mandate and training through programs developed by the National Office. The Canadian Ski Patrol is dedicated to providing safety and rescue services to ski areas and non-skiing events across Canada.

The Chicopee Patrol offers individuals the opportunity to become a member of a national organization as a highly trained medical responder/rescuer. As a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol you will provided with opportunities to develop as both an individual and as part of a team.

Volunteer positions are available within Ontario or any where in Canada. Chicopee Patrol and the CSP welcome all qualified applicants to become a member of the winter patrol. Interested individuals may apply directly through the Chicopee Patrol Leader or visit the Ontario Division or Western Zone web sites. Your application is received as a general member of the CSP where you may select your choice resort to volunteer.

What to expect

No experience is necessary to become a member of the CSP. All members will be provided proper training consisting of first aid, oxygen therapy, CPR, AED, rescue techniques and patient transportation. Each member of the CSP is required to annually pass a set of rigid examinations pertaining to all aspects of winter patrolling. The CSP first aid course is recognized and approved by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board of Ontario.

The first aid course generally runs two nights a week starting late September for eleven weeks. (Other courses may be offered with varying dates and duration.) On-snow training is provided during your first season and every third year afterwards.

As a member of the CSP there is a small amount of required duty days that various with each resort. The resort Patrol Leader or representative should be able to provide you with their duty requirements.

Members of the CSP are privy to free skiing privileges at various ski resorts in Canada, please refer to the Western Zone web site for details. The CSP also offers its members many savings through various sponsors.

Minimum Patroller Requirements

· Must be 18 years of age or older
· Strong intermediate to advanced level skier/boarder
· Physically fit
· Enjoy helping others
· Able to work and communicate in a team environment
· Willingness to learn new skills
· Ability to work under pressure
· Positive attitude
· Enjoy working outdoors
