2009 Tremblant Camp Review (December 29 2009)

The most memorable part of the camp for most will be the bone chilling temperatures and fog. Frostbite was common place despite our best efforts to cover up.

We were fortunate to have booked our training lanes well in advance of the camp. They provided us with a safe place to train in the midst of many recreational skiers trying to find their way down the mountain on very limited terrain.

The kids skied hundreds of whisker gates over the four days of lane work improving their timing and turn shape with every run; the coaches noticed many improvements.

Kelly Vanderbeeks’ crash came as quite a shock to us as news spread around the mountain. Missing the Olympics will be a disappointment for Kelly and all of her fans. The good news is that the knee damage appears to be repairable and Kelly is determined to come back stronger than ever.

In addition to Tremblant being an excellent racing facility, it was also an opportunity for the families to socialize. The spa and the coffee shops saw visitors that found their services more appealing than -30 degree temperatures with zero visibility. A big thanks to the Moore family for hosting a cocktail party at their vacation home.

I would have to rate the camp as a success from a training point of view. Tremblant supplied us with training lanes that were ideal for the plan we had. The limited runs available were unfortunate for family members wishing to free ski but overall the families enjoyed their time at Tremblant. There were many other activities and attractions available so there was something to do for all family members.

While we were in Tremblant, the operations team at Chicopee did a wonderful job snowmaking and getting a majority of the trails open in spite of the warm weather and rain we have experienced to start the season.

We hope to see you carving through the hills soon! Programs begin the first week of January,
