Chicopee Ski Club in conjunction with Dave FM raised $25,226 during the “Ski Down Wednesday” program for the Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region. A cheque presentation took place Monday April 12th 2010, at 10:30am.
The “Ski Down Wednesday” program began on Wednesday January 13th and ran until Wednesday March 10th with Dave FM running radio and web promotions for the program. Lift tickets were sold at a discounted rate of $22 for a full day lift ticket, and for every ticket sold, a $5 donation was made to the Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region. A grand total of 5056 tickets were sold.
‘The funds raised from the program will contribute to the $2,270,250 already collected to relocate and build the new Anselma House. The facility provides shelter, education and outreach services to abused women and their children.
The new 35,000 square foot facility will be constructed on a 1.7 acre site located on Ottawa Street North between Heritage Drive and Oldfield Drive. The new shelter will expand Anselma House’s current capacity from 20 beds to 45. Additionally, the new shelter will offer children’s play areas, study spaces and rooms for children’s programming.
Looking forward to next year, Chicopee Ski Club is looking to expand its media and charitable partnerships for the betterment of the surrounding community. “The spirit of giving back to our community is important for Chicopee,” says Executive Director Reg Verley. The “Ski Down Wednesday” program will go through exciting changes that will see Chicopee Ski Club continue its active involvement in the Waterloo Region.
