Rugged Maniac comes back to Chicopee
Carlos Saavedra | January 13 2016 | Category: Press Releases | Comments
KITCHENER, ON, MAY 28TH 2016—Runners, mudders, and thrill-seekers from around Ontario will beat the summer heat in the wildest—and muddiest—of ways when the 2016 Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Race Series comes to Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort in Kitchener on Saturday May 28th 2016.
An event designed for those who love fun, fitness and festivals, hosted by one of North America’s largest obstacle race companies, will see thousands of participants tackle 25 unique and challenging obstacles. Runners will jump over fire, crawl through underground tunnels, rocket down a 50 foot water slide and bounce on trampolines as they make their way in, over, and through the 5km layout at Chicopee Ski and Summer Resort in the heart of Kitchener.
Rugged Maniac has designated the Rangers’ Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear program as their featured beneficiary for the Kitchener event. Rugged Maniac will donate $1 from each registration to Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear and racers will have the opportunity to make additional donations through registration.
The Sun Life Financial Kids in Gear program assists with the collection and purchase of hockey equipment for youth who require financial support in the Kitchener-Waterloo community. The program also provides financial support and assists with playing fees for families. Tickets are available online at http://www.ruggedmaniac.com/events/toronto. Rangers fans can use the discount code RANGERS to receive $10 off registration entries. The day-long festival, which is free to attend for spectators, will also feature an array of entertainment including music, mechanical bulls, beer, food, and exhibition booths.
Rugged Maniac CEO Brad Scudder appeared on the hit show Shark Tank, and caught the attention of famed businessman and billionaire Mark Cuban, who was impressed with the events and the enthusiasm of all the Maniac participants. So much so that he secured a 25% ownership in the company with a $1.75 million dollar investment. “Rugged Maniac is very excited to bring this fantastic event back to Kitchener and partner with the Kitchener Rangers to support their Sun Life Financial Kids in Gear program,” says Dave Cannon, Director of Rugged Maniac Canada. “Rugged Maniac provides a fun outlet for both adults and teenagers to get more adventure and excitement in their lives by playing in the mud.”

Yup. Still too warm to make snow.
Carlos Saavedra | December 22 2015 | Category: General | Comments
Mother Nature is holding out as thousands of skiers and snowboarders patiently wait for the season to get started. These next few weeks are forecasted to have unusually warm weather. The Chicopee Operations Team has gone through and tested all our snowmaking systems, and are ready and waiting for our first cold spell.
To fight against the now volatile weather patterns of the last few years, Chicopee has invested over $400,000 into new state-of-the-art, high efficiency snow guns. These guns allow us to make snow at higher temperatures (-2c to -3c, but not 10c!) and are much more energy efficient in doing so.
With the new snow guns and cold temperatures last season, we found that we could almost completely deplete our water supply in 10 days of snowmaking. It would take us up to 3 weeks to restore the ponds and water supply. To rectify this vulnerability, we drilled a new well deep in the bedrock, which means we’ll be able to produce approximately 3x the volume of water. This means we’ll have all the water we need for snowmaking.
So the million dollar question, when will we be open? At this point only Mother Nature can answer that. Stay tuned to our social media channels and e-newsletter for the latest updates. We will be announcing our opening once a date is confirmed.
Stay tuned, and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
