INFORMATION UPDATE: COVID-19 Operational Safety Plan for the 2020-2021 Winter Season

To all of our Chicopee Supporters (January 14th, 2021)

To all of our Chicopee Supporters,

We are as heavy hearted as you with the Premier’s decision to issuing a stay-at-home order for the province of Ontario which will be in place until February 10th. Chicopee has always prioritized the health and safety of our guests, and our staff. We are encouraging everyone to take proactive steps to prevent the spread by staying home during this shutdown.

Our Leadership Team here at Chicopee is continuing to be dynamic and respond to the ever changing situation. We remain cautiously optimistic that the government will allow us to operate beginning February 11. We continue to invest in snowmaking as needed so we are ready for your arrival as soon as we are given the go ahead to turn the lifts.

We are working with our association (Ontario Snow Resorts Association), Waterloo Regional Public Health, and the Government of Ontario to get open in a safe manner as soon as we can. In fact, Chicopee was invited to be part of a select few to represent the Ski Industry on a newly formed Minister’s Advisory Committee, working with the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism, and Culture Industries to help them understand the industry (why we should be open, the safety protocols that we have in place, and how we can operate safely) so they can get us reopened as soon as possible.

For everyone’s safety we will remain closed and continue to ask that you please refrain from coming to the property. We still have machines and maintenance at the hill and they need space to do their job.

Update for the season moving forward (as it looks today):

Gift cards will be issued at the end of March with your credit, as calculated based on our Assurance Policy, January 12 to February 10.

To our Members, Cardholders and Passholders, December 29 began the fourteen-day pause, and gift cards will be issued at the end of March for your appropriate credit until February 10.

To our Private Lesson Participants, who had a booking January 22 to February 10, you should have now been contacted individually.

To our 9-Week Lesson & Race Participants, as of today our programs will be restructured to a 5-Week program.

Assurance Plan Announcement (December 29th, 2020)

To all of our Chicopee Supporters,

We are excited to announce that our snowmaking team has made it possible to announce an opening date. Their perseverance and reactiveness to the roller coaster of temperatures has finally provided us enough snow to comfortably announce that the official start date for the 2020-2021 season would have been December 29, 2020. This announcement is bittersweet on so many levels; December 29 is our 86th anniversary and while we would love to be celebrating with you on snow, the fact of the matter is we will have to celebrate in other ways. This year we will celebrate resilience, knowing that anything COVID has presented will one day be a thing of the past, like so many other hardships in years gone by.

With this date we now have the required information for our Assurance Plan. As our Operational Plan outlines (we have just moved into Scenario 3), we will issue credits March 21 to 31, 2021.

We will continue to invest in snowmaking, when the temperatures allow, and maintain the hills so that we are ready to serve you on January 23, at the end of the provincial shutdown. Chicopee will be closed to the public until further notice. We would ask for your cooperation in staying off the property. This opportunity allows our teams (and their machines) to be efficient and effective in getting their jobs done.

To our Members, Cardholders and Passholders, the date announced today will begin the fourteen-day pause.

To our Private Lesson Participants who had a booking December 19 to January 22, you should have now been contacted individually.

To our 9-Week Lesson & Race Participants, as of today our programs will be restructured to a 7-Week program.

The programs will run as follows:

Guest Services is available to you via email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) and by telephone (519-894-5610 extension 0) to answer any questions you may have Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 7:00pm.

We would like to reiterate that this situation is our reality, and we would encourage you to notify your government officials with concerns, and show your support to the industry by engaging with such platforms: https://www.saveourskiing.ca/

We encourage everyone to follow Public Health guidelines and do your part to ensure this shutdown is effective. This will allow us to see you January 23!

We know we may not have all the answers that you required, and we want to thank you for your extreme patience as this situation evolves.

Our goal as always is to create unique fun-filled experiences for our community, in a safe and healthy environment.

Chicopee Announcement (December 23rd, 2020)

To our Chicopee Supporters,

We understand you may be anxious about what is taking place at Chicopee with the recent announcement by the Premier.

We have deliberately taken the past 48 hours to digest the announcement of the province-wide shut down and spent the time to meet with our teams to formulate our strategy going forward.

We were all shocked by the decision to close ski hills in Ontario. Right up until 12:45 pm Dec 21 the messaging from the Ontario Government had been positive. We were told as an industry that things were trending in a positive direction, and we could have expected good news (not the case). Our local Public Health has been working closely with us and have been amazing supporters of everything we have done to prepare for your arrival.

Chicopee was projected to open on December 19, but due to lack of snow was unable. We communicated that by December 23 we would have a new projected date to announce. Opening days are always a moving target with so many variables. It is important to note that long before COVID, the weather was and is the number one variable to determine the opening date at any ski facility.

As always, we have been working diligently to prepare the hill; making snow when temperatures have allowed. We have been hiring, onboarding, and training over 600 seasonal team members in anticipation. This year we have also had to develop COVID Operational Plans, sign and modify the facility to accommodate guests in a COVID friendly manner and spend extra time and resources on safety protocols for wellness.

We delayed our Early Bird Membership and Lesson Drive until October to ensure we were up to date with requirements for operating during the pandemic. In thinking of you, we further delayed taking your financial commitment until December 1, after you could read our COVID Operating Plan and make a final educated decision to join us for this season.

That being said, we want everyone to know that as of today we are still unable to open, or even predict our new opening date because temperatures are not allowing for us to make snow. The lack of snow has nothing to do with the Premier’s announcement or forced shutdown. We will continue to move forward over the next few days and make the investment in snowmaking so that as soon as there is enough snow, we will announce a new opening date. This date is important as it will mark the beginning of the 2020-2021 season officially and allow us to have a base calculator for our COVID Assurance Plan.

We are returning your calls and responding to your emails and social requests as quickly as possible and will keep you up to date as new developments unfold.

Our understanding from the Ontario Government is that we will be permitted to open on January 23, and this is our goal! We will continue hard to make snow as the weather permits, adjusting your 9-Week Lesson Programs, rescheduling your Private Lessons, and arranging new dates for you to pick up your Memberships and Cards. We will update you in the next few weeks on how this will work and hope to have approval for curbside pick-up.

We would like to reiterate that this situation is beyond our control and we are responding in the most effective way we can. Daily, even hourly, the situation in the province changes and again the government and weather are in control. At this time, we may not have the answer to your questions, and we thank you for your patience and understanding, knowing you will get those as soon as we can.

We will be closed from December 24 to December 28. Guest Services will then be open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 7 pm by telephone and email only. The entire property will be closed for access until further notice.

We encourage everyone to follow Public Health guidelines and do their part to ensure this shutdown is effective. This will allow us to see you on January 23!

We want to thank you for your extreme patience as this situation evolves. Our goal as always is to create unique fun-filled experiences for our community, in a safe and healthy environment.

Thank you for your understanding and commitment!

We want to wish you, and your family a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday Season, and Happy New Year!

Stay Healthy, Stay Safe, Be Kind, and See you soon!

Chicopee is committed to offering a safe and healthy winter season!

We are publishing this update in an attempt to control call volume on some of the frequently asked questions to date. We understand as you read through our plan, there will be questions, and we are committed to updates as needed.

We have tried our absolute best to be as transparent as possible and ensure that your visit to the hill is normalized, recognizing you will be masked, exercising physical distancing, be in-tune with your personal wellness and practicing good hygiene. Your safety is our number one priority, and we are confident this is reflected by our safety plan.

We have waited as late as we could to release the information to ensure its accuracy and relevancy, allowing you to make an informed purchase decision. Our Team is working diligently to respond to your emails and calls, and we thank you for your patience..

We are committed to keeping you up to date on changes that may need to be made. We will continue to prioritize your safety, and with everyone’s cooperation, we believe we can provide the same unique, fun-filled experiences you have come to know and love! Looking forward to a safe and enjoyable season!

Looking forward to a safe and enjoyable season!

Capacity

We recognize some of our industry colleagues have decided to ask that you re-register or pre-purchase your visit to their facility, regardless if you are a member or day user. Chicopee has decided that we will not be taking that approach. We will always be empowering our guests to decide if they wish to ski or snowboard on a particular day based on the parking lot and lift lines. With reduced capacities instituted by physical distancing, we are confident these measures are enough. We will have a Guest Services representative working outdoors to help guide your decision as you arrive so that you are aware of potential wait times.

Response Framework Levels

Public Health will guide us through regional restrictions or requirements as the Region moves from yellow through grey and back. We know we are able to run in the current red level, and in accordance with the current Ontario.ca COVID-19 Response Framework ski hills would be permitted to be open with restrictions in the lockdown. We would like you to feel confident in knowing the vast majority of our guests come directly from our own Waterloo Region.

Holiday Camps

If we are unable to run our Holiday Camps as a result of no snow or weather (as it has been in the past), we will treat those camps the same way as always, and you would receive a refund. If the Holiday Camps are unable to run because of a Public Health-related closure, we would offer a credit, as explained in our COVID-19 Assurance Policy.

Lift Operations

At this time, we will be running our lifts allowing guests to line-up and ride with their family or as a single rider. Lines have been altered to allow for physical distancing and a reminder that everyone will be masked.

Chicopee COVID-19 Assurance

All reservations become purchases on December 1, 2020. Any purchaser who wishes to cancel on or before 5:00 pm on November 30, 2020 may do so without question or penalty by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). You will receive a confirmation of cancellation from us when we process your request.

Scenario 1: Full Season Closure
Should Chicopee be told between December 1 and Opening Day that we are not be able to operate for the season, or if it is not feasible due to a Public Health ruling, we will move your purchase to the 2021-2022 season.

Scenario 2: 14-Day Season Pause
Should Chicopee not be able to operate because of a Public Health closure due to COVID-19, up to and including 14 days, all Memberships, Season Passes, Cards, Programs and Camps will continue after shutdown with no credit. We will essentially pause the operation during this time.

Scenario 3: 14-Day Season Interruption
Should Chicopee not be able to operate because of a Public Health closure due to COVID-19, for more than 14 days, all Memberships, Season Passes, Cards, Programs and Camps will be prorated for the number of days closed beyond 14 days, and a credit issued to the original payee’s in the form of a Chicopee credit. These transactions would be completed between March 21 and March 31, 2021.

To be clear, we will only allow a maximum of one Scenario 2, where we would pause the business without any option for credit. Should we encounter Scenario 3 multiple times, there would be a cumulative credit offered.

A prorated credit is calculated as such:

$ Value of Product Purchased / Operational Days (Opening Day to Closing Day) = Daily Rate

Daily Rate x Available Credit Approved Days = Credit Issued

Our opening day and closing day are dependant upon weather and snow load. We have published a projected opening date of Saturday, December 19, 2020, and projected closing date of Sunday, March 21, 2021. Calculations will be based on actual opening and closing dates.

There will be no refunds! Credit will be issued to your Chicopee account and be valid until the closing day of our 2021/2022 Season (Projected March 20, 2022).
