We hope that the following will lend you an opportunity to learn something of the Track 3 background and relationship with the Chicopee Ski Club.

Track 3 started around the winter of 1990-1991 when Bob Gilmour directly approached Chicopee, a number of young people with disabilities and a handful of skiing friends with his vision of teaching disabled youth the thrill and enjoyment of downhill skiing as a leisure activity.  Track 3 was incorporated as a Registered Charity on May 1, 1993. Track 3 is a growing and thriving organization and we have operated at capacity for the past number of years.  With over 80 students supported by over 200 volunteers, Track 3’s annual financial expenditures now approach $60,000.  Track 3 operates with one staff person, a ‘working Board’ and draws on its instructor volunteer base in the winter months.  Thanks to the generosity of community and corporate supporters, Track 3 is able to offer the program to families at a fraction of the cost.  It takes $700 per student every year to run this program, and Track 3 funds nearly 80% of those costs from sources other than registration fees.

Track 3 has had an excellent working relationship with Chicopee since its inception; Track 3 has tried and continues to work hard with Chicopee to plan for the future, keeping in mind the goals of both organizations.  Some of our past achievements are:

Raising $200,000.00 to pay for the addition to the chalet in 1994
Raising $30,000.00 to pay for lighting on Little Foot in 2000
Raising $75,000.00 to help offset the cost of a new magic carpet lift on Rabbits Foot in 2005

Over the past several seasons with the help of Track 3, Chicopee has been able to offer skiing to children with disabilities allowing them to participate on their school ski trips. Track 3 supplies all the equipment and volunteer instructors so these individuals can be introduced to the sport of down hill skiing. We have found that Track 3 greatly enhances the lives of not only our students, but also their families.  Through Track 3, students build self-esteem and confidence, they participate in a winter sport that even some of their family and friends don’t participate in.  They wear their tow tags and lift passes with great enthusiasm and pride!  A great many families, in fact, became Chicopee members!
